All-England Champion

Heartiest congratulations to Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong, as they again demonstrated why they are the world’s most exciting young pair at the All-England

They beat China’s world champions Fu Haifeng-Cai Yun to end Malaysia’s 25-year wait, in dazzling style winning 21-15, 21-18 in 39 minutes.

The duo, formed only months ago showed determination and grit, as well as skill and composure to win the tournament. Adding to the DOHA Asian Games team gold medal, they have shown yet again that Malaysians can do well in the international sporting arena, but only with the right attitude.

Lets continue to look at our other sad sport affairs.

In football, we are so lowly ranked that it is embarrasing. Our hockey team has declined so badly that now they might not be called for tournaments or even as spar partners with the other team.

Where have we gone wrong?

Loads of cash is being channelled into sports, for foreign coaches, for top-of-the-range facilities (remember the London centre), winning incentives, sports schools yet we cannot produce world class athletes (Nicole David and Josiah Ng is a different class).

Anyhow, congrats again to our badminton players and keep the Jalur Gemilang flying high.
